Research Assistant in Effective Flood Resilience
Are you an early career researcher looking into some additional experience
on research assistance? Do you have experience with flood risks, property
flood resilience, and SME disaster/flood recovery?
Flooding represents one of the major climate change risks in the UK. During
the last decade, flooding events have affected numerous regions of the
country, such as those registered in late 2012 and during Boxing Day 2016.
Climate change implies that flooding is likely to become more frequent and
more severe in the coming decades, bringing potential disruption to the
economy. Flooding causes direct loss and damage to communities, businesses and
infrastructure, and also has knock-on effects that can be wide-reaching and
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which comprise the majority of firms in
the private sector, can be highly vulnerable to flood impacts. But, how SMEs
can protect themselves adequately to flood events is an under researched area,
while insurers or lenders do not fully understand the risks to provide
adequate and affordable lending and insurance products to SMEs.
You will work with Dr Paola Sakai and be part of wider partnerships with the
insurance industry and other sectors and will want to move forward the agenda
of improving SMEs flood resilience across the UK and other parts of the world.
