Job description

We are looking for two talented and enthusiastic Research Associates or Research Assistants with strong interest in circular economy, healthcare sustainability, remanufacturing and recycling to work on an exciting project which aims to develop a whole system circular approach to the design, use and end-of-life management of small medical devices (SMD).

These posts are as part of six research associate positions in this project. The postholders will be based at the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, Loughborough University campus and will lead work on create novel design, material specifications, reprocessing technologies as well as digital tools to demonstrate the technical, economic and operational viability of the circular economy for SMD. This includes life cycle sustainability assessment (including environmental, economic and social considerations) to support both design improvements as well as for the selection of the most appropriate reprocessing options (remanufacturing and reuse or material recycling) for various SMD.

This appointment will be for 24 months fixed term. You will have a PhD degree or equivalent in engineering, design, materials, manufacturing or any relevant discipline. You will have regular interaction and collaborate closely with the project's team of postdoctoral researchers together with an integrated academic and industrial project team to develop new learning and to disseminate the project findings.
