The Department of Architecture is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant to join our dedicated research team in the Building Simplexity Lab (https: // bsl.hku.hk/), directed by Dr. Kristof Crolla. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on ground-breaking projects at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and architecture, contributing to the development of innovative educational tools, designs, and methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrate AI-trained models into architectural design workflows and traditional methodologies to enhance design processes.
  • Conduct independent research focused on developing advanced machine learning tools, emphasising lightweight, user-friendly computational workflows and interactions.
  • Develop and disseminate engaging tutorials and educational content to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Collaborate with esteemed faculty members and researchers to advance the understanding and application of AI in architecture, and disseminate findings through written work.
  • Requirements:

  • Master's degree in architecture, computer science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in coding languages, C# and Python.
  • Proven experience in developing high-quality AI-related tutorials or educational materials, with a focus on clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse learners.
  • Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
  • A clear track record of writing and publishing academic papers in peer- reviewed conferences or journals, demonstrating the ability to communicate complex research findings effectively.
  • Experience working in a collaborative research environment, with evidence of successful teamwork and communication.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and practices to ensure efficient collaboration, organisation, and task tracking among team members.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced research environment.

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
