Job Summary

The Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University is a small research-intensive campus located in Truro, NS. Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, environment and related life and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (Dr Yiridoe), the Research Assistant will contribute to the evaluation of economic costs and benefits to identify the most economically viable value-added option for converting apple pomace into value-added products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support regarding project data including compiling and organizing data in existing enterprise budgets and economics models in MS Excel.
  • Analyze data, and compile and evaluate various costs and benefits for valued-added product options.
  • Assist with scholarly literature reviews. Obtain, read and draft reviews of pre-determined literature.
  • Assist in the drafting of technical reports as well as tables and supporting documentation for reports and publishable papers.
  • Participate in project meetings.
  • Note

    The successful candidate is expected to be available to work on campus and will be required to provide proof of vaccination or twice-weekly COVID tests in accordance with University policies.

    The successful applicant may work on campus, work remotely, or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.


    Undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics or Economics (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Must have strong attention to detail and analytical skills, as well as demonstrated experience working with MS Office (Word, Excel) and Minitab/SAS/SPSS. Proven communication (verbal and written) and teamwork skills are required. Must have demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
