Job Summary

The Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University is a small research-intensive campus located in Truro, NS. Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, environment and related life and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Assistant will support the economics component of a larger multi-disciplinary study developing silage management plans for dairy producers across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compile silage and related farm management data as well as publicly available economics data, and organize into a spreadsheet database for economic analysis. This includes working in collaboration with the PI, larger project team and selected dairy producer groups to gather data.
  • Assist with calibrating and validating a dairy farm system model, and using the model to evaluate selected farm management decisions and impacts.
  • Work with support and direction from project team members to plan and conduct a critical literature review. Assist with scholarly literature search and review.
  • Support project team members in the preparation of research project reports, technical writing, publishable journal articles and other resources intended to disseminate information.
  • Note Qualifications

    Undergraduate degree in Economics or Agricultural Economics plus approximately one year's relevant prior experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Must have experience in statistical and data analysis as well as simulation modelling using agricultural decision-making tools. Strong attention to detail, and organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are required. Knowledge of Canadian dairy/silage production systems is preferred.
