The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) with its 1,100 employees has gained an excellent reputation as an international competence centre for environmental sciences. We are part of the largest scientific organisation in Germany, the Helmholtz association. Our mission: Our research seeks to find a balance between social development and the long-term protection of our natural resources.
The jobThe junior research group AgriScape, funded within the BMBF programme Social–Ecological Research (Sozial–Ökologische Forschung, SÖF) aims at understanding and highlighting the trade-offs associated with a transformation of agriculture (“Agrarwende”) towards more sustainability, with a particular focus on multifunctional landscapes in Germany. We are working with multi-year and field-specific agricultural geodata, e. g. land use and participation in agri-environmental measures. This data is to be processed and analyzed for further use as part of the advertised position. This should be done in the programming language R or Python and be very well documented. The code created for this should be made available in a Git repository at least UFZ-wide, since similar data sets will also be used increasingly in other working groups in the future. Working hours and days are flexible up to a maximum of 19 hours per week. The contract period will be extended accordingly if fewer weekly hours are agreed.
