Research Assistant/Associate in Photonic Devices and Optics (Fixed Term)

A position exists for a Research Assistant/Research Associate in Photonic Devices and Optics, for 12 months with a potential to extend at the end of the period.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The role including the key responsibility and duty can be summarised as: research and design novel photonic devices in particular in the context of light polarisation and the related impacts as well as the manipulation of polarised beams with spatial light modulators and module design and construction, optical simulation and/or optical characterisation for performance optimisation; compile and analyse quantitative and qualitative data, prepares reports and presents results to summarise main findings and conclusions; writes journal articles on reveal research findings if possible; manage own research and administrative activities, with guidance if required; work in a team and provide support to other work when required; and may assist in the development of student research skills.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: having obtained or being close to obtaining a PhD in a relevant specialist subject of photonics, optics, and/or optical engineering, and demonstrating the ability to perform key responsibilities and duties as described in above in the context of a strong publication record. Research experience in optical design and simulations is essential, and research and development experience in device fabrication as well as evaluating optical and overall performance of the designed and fabricated apparatus is desirable.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £27,116 - £31,406; Research Associate: £33,309 - £40,927

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
