We are seeking a very motivated, detail-oriented, professional to manage
research studies focused on substance use prevention and treatment. The
position involves working closely with other research staff and Project
Investigators to ensure completion.
This Research Area Specialist Associate position will involve supervising
research assistants to complete the proposed research, as well as
collaborating with the study investigators, and community-based recruitment
sites. Activities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting in developing manuals and protocols;
Quality assurance procedures related to maintaining study progress and results (e.g., enrollment rates, attrition, engagement in interventions)
Identifying and implementing solutions to enhance completion of study milestones (e.g., enrollment goals, intervention engagement, follow-up)
Adapting and refining research procedures, including supervision of data collection and verification
Conducting focus testing and stakeholder interviews;
Assisting in preparing IRB submissions, annual reports, and conference or scientific paper submissions training and supervising staff recruiting and delivering the intervention, providing back up in case of staff illness, etc;
Scheduling and preparing agenda and documents for project meetings;
Overseeing completion of clinical trials, including completion of data collection efforts for data sharing.
This person must be flexible, have experience working as a team member, and
have excellent communication skills. Comfort and experience discussing
sensitive topics with underserved populations is necessary.
Bachelor's degree in a field related to public health (e.g., psychology,
social work, mental health services, etc)
1-3 years of related experience
Experience working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience in human subjects research.
Understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
Experience managing staff in execution of research aims
Some clinical training and experience using Motivational Interviewing.
Experience managing a team.
Experience with scientific writing, including literature searches (e.g.,
PubMed, Google Scholar), and communicating scientifically about research
Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting.
Experience assisting with quantitative and qualitative data analyses
Primarily days, with the potential need to take work scheduled shifts during
active study periods on nights/evenings/weekends and fill in during other
staff absences; and the potential need to train/supervise staff at times
during the active study period on nights/evenings/weekends.
Currently due to COVID-19, there is flexibility in the work location, with
most work occurring at home. In addition, the staff member is required to go
to study sites throughout Southeast Michigan, with the primary work location
being in Ann Arbor, when COVID-19 restrictions allow return to the office.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug
testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may
use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background
