Job Description:

The Research and Retention Analyst is responsible for the maintenance and analysis of institutional data. This position is also responsible for using predictive analytics in support of student success and institutional effectiveness.

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)

  • Plan, prepare, and produce a variety of regular and ad-hoc queries, reports, and publications to meet external reporting requirements, such as IPEDS, accrediting agencies, state reporting, etc.; and internal informational needs.
  • Work with colleagues throughout the University to determine information needs and identify the data to respond to those needs. Develop specifications and solutions for providing the data. Review output for validity, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Develop data visualizations and dashboards to support data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Conduct statistical analyses to support institutional planning, analysis and process improvement.
  • Support University benchmarking and market research efforts through research and analysis of higher education, labor and census data.
  • Collect and analyze data related to retention, persistence and graduation.
  • Contribute information that will assist in the development of effective recruitment and retention strategy.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned, including special projects designed to promote key strategic goals.
  • Requirements:

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience working with data and analysis, preferably in higher education.
  • Knowledge of higher education research and reporting requirements is preferred.
  • Experience with data management systems.
  • Other Qualifications

  • Technical skills and experience with Internet, Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, Access), statistical software (SPSS preferred), and relational databases (JENZABAR and Slate preferred).
  • Knowledge of academic computing, web writing/design, database functionality, and demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new technologies.
  • Proven strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to put data in context.
  • Solid understanding of research methods and statistical data analysis.
  • Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment; flexible and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents. Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism, creative problem solving, discretion, diplomacy, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public
  • Able to work scheduled evenings and Saturdays planned throughout the semester, as needed.
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population.
