  • About This Opportunity

    This is a great opportunity for a Research Administration Coordinator to join the School of Mathematics and Physics. This role provides high-level advisory and operational support for the School's research activities, enhancing the School's research performance and reputation. The Research Administration Coordinator works closely with researchers and School leadership to prepare high-quality applications for grants and fellowships. The successful candidate also provides high-level advice on all aspects of research administration, and collaborates with the School's research community and key stakeholders to help identify new opportunities for research funding and collaborations. Additionally, this position provides administrative support to the School's research functions, including compiling, analysing and reporting on research performance, and serves as a vital link between the School and the research professional services within the Faculty of Science and Central Portfolios.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Research Advisory

  • Maintain an expert understanding of the School's research activities, its strategic objectives, and existing and emerging research strengths.

  • Identify upcoming research opportunities relevant to School staff and promote awareness of these.

  • Support the School in meeting research-based strategic goals, including provision and analysis of research performance data, grant/fellowship eligibility..

  • Provide high-level advice to researchers in relation to current and future funding opportunities.

  • Coordinate systems and resources to support researchers in attracting research funding.

  • Provide specialist advice to enhance quality and competitiveness of grant submissions.

  • General:

  • Provide high-level support in the preparation of research grant applications, including assistance with budgets and online submission systems, and organising endorsements and certifications as required.

  • Organise School researcher training and capacity building events.

  • Prepare and write reports and strategy documents, as well as School publications and materials.

  • About You

  • Undergraduate qualifications and extensive research development and/or contract management experience (preferably in the tertiary education or research sectors); or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated skills in research contract administration and management.

  • Demonstrated high-level written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and summarise detail.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated high-level organisational and time management skills with attention to detail.

  • A demonstrated capacity to analyse problems and propose solutions, while working independently under general direction.

  • A working knowledge of Australia's research funding schemes and challenges facing the research sector.

  • Evidence of the ability to assimilate new information rapidly and deploy such knowledge to the benefit of the organisation.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and proactively liaise across related functional areas of the University.

  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia.
