Activities to be carried out: monitoring of forest ecosystems, including urban ones, for the detection of vegetation anomalies deriving from biotic agents (insects, fungi), development of software and statistical algorithms for co- registration, mosaicking, cloud masking, image compositing satellites (Copernicus Sentinel 2, PRISMA, WorldView 3) for the semi-automatic detection of said vegetation anomalies.

Required knowledge/skills: multispectral (Sentinel-2 mission) and hyperspectral (PRISMA mission) remote sensing data analysis pipeline settings; previous knowledge of the WorldView 3 mission will also be a preferential qualification; knowledge of the physiological vegetation processes underlying optical sensing systems in the visible (VIS), near infrared (NIR) and medium wave infrared (SWIR) spectra; implementation of supervised classification algorithms for remote sensing (SVM, principal components, maximum likelihood, etc.); programming in R, Python and/or Javascript, experience programming in the Google Earth Engine environment.

Benefits

The research grant referred to in this notice will shall last far 14 months.

The total amount of the research grant is EUR 24.158,23 (gross amount), to be paid in monthly installments. This amount includes INPS (National Welfare Institute) duties to be paid by the research grant beneficiary; it does not include the duties to be paid by the Institution as per art. 2, sub 26 and the following subs of Law n. 335 of August 8th, 1995 and subsequent amendments and addenda. The tax benefits provided for by art. 4 of Law n.476 of August 13th, 1984 subsequent amendments and addenda are applicable.

The travel costs related to the work activity and supported by the grant holder will be reimbursed only upon presentation of suitable probative documentation in accordance with the current legislation.

CREA provides insurance coverage for injury and civil responsibility risks.

Eligibility criteria

The selection is open to Italian and foreign citizens who, on the day of the application deadline, meet the following requirements:

  • university degree (pursuant to Ministerial Decree 509/99, 270/04 or previous university regulations);
  • good knowledge of spoken and written English.
  • Those who participate in the selection can participate:

  • not having entered fixed-term contracts, employer-coordinated freelance work contracts, agency-coordinated contracts, professional consultancy and work contracts with CREA and not having been the beneficiary of CREA research grants/scholarships whose duration, if added to the duration of the current research grant, exceeds 35 months. This condition may result in exclusion, because the duration of the research grant cannot be shortened.
  • Academic and professional qualifications obtained abroad must be equivalent to the ones required in Italy.

    Selection process

    The maximum score is 30 and scores shall be assigned according to the following criteria:

    22 points for academic qualifications, and 8 points for an oral exam. The oral examination shall revolve around the subjects related to the research grant. During the exam, the applicant's knowledge of English, basic IT skills, any second languages shall also be tested. Only applicants who are assigned a minimum score of 6 for the oral examination shall pass the exam.
