The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Idaho seeks candidates for a full-time tenure track faculty position in hydraulics at the level of assistant or associate professor.
We are seeking candidates with interest in emerging areas and/or hydraulics topics of significant societal importance such as green hydropower, hydraulics of rivers and/or lentic systems, hydraulic structures, or some aspect of hydraulics that combines laboratory and computational approaches. Candidates will be encouraged to collaborate with the UI Center for Ecohydraulics ( https: // www. uidaho.edu/engr/research/cer), a graduate education and research program dedicated to studying links between physical processes and aquatic ecosystems. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate on the recently funded NSF EPSCoR project titled Idaho Community- engaged Resilience for Energy-Water Systems (I-CREWS, https: // www. idahoepscor.org/i-crews), which may be a source of start-up and/or continued funding for the right candidate.
The CEE department is in midst of a $7M fundraising campaign to renovate laboratory spaces and increase student support, and has secured donations to begin transforming the existing hydraulics laboratory into the Ardurra Water Lab. This laboratory space is approximately 3,500 sq ft, with integrated sump, pump and pipe network; flumes (including a new Armfield Flow Visualization Tank); and various educational hydraulics equipment. We are particularly interested in candidates with a vision to grow this laboratory into an outstanding modern teaching and research facility.
The successful candidate will teach both traditional civil engineering hydraulics courses, as well as develop new courses in their specific area of expertise. The CEE department is committed to quality education and has high expectations for teaching excellence. The candidate will advise/mentor both undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong externally funded research program that supports graduate students and results in high-quality publications.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was the first department at UI. The demand for our graduates is outstanding. The department faculty are strongly committed to excellent undergraduate and graduate education. CEE faculty are the drivers of two well-known research centers, the Center for Ecohydraulics Research (CER) and the National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology (NIATT). The department is in the midst of a highly successful fundraising campaign to renovate educational infrastructure and increase student support with three new/renovated labs underway: an Advanced Computing Laboratory, the Ardurra Water Laboratory, and the structures laboratory. Ph.D. in Civil Engineering
Ability to obtain licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Idaho within 3 years of hire
Expertise in hydraulics
Record of research productivity
Demonstrated experience communicating orally and in writing to a range of audiences
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in hydraulics
Professional experience in private practice or government agency
Experience conducting externally funded research
Experience managing, teaching, and conducting research in a laboratory setting
Demonstrated ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary and multicultural environments
