Unit Summary:
NP 5200 is a 37-bed inpatient adult medical/stepdown oncology unit. Our main patient populations involve symptom management for oncology patients, administration of chemotherapeutic agents, and end-of-life care. Nursing care is provided in collaboration with other departments and disciplines including hospital medicine, surgical services, pharmacy, case management, social work, nurse navigators, dieticians, and chaplain services. The unit is also part of Duke Cancer Institute of Wake County, which provides comprehensive cancer treatment for patients in Wake County receiving care across the continuum of inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Job Summary:
Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
RNs with no previous oncology/chemo experience will be skilled to administer chemotherapy/immunotherapy within 6-8 months of hire. We offer didactic education and hands-on precepted orientation for chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration based on ONS/APHON guidelines, DUHS policies and procedures, and appropriate evidence in practice standards. RNs will complete the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course within 24 months of initial chemotherapy/immunotherapy competency with DUHS.

Education
Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN/ADN program. Registered nurses hired after July 1, 2014 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are expected to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within five years of their start date.
