Position Summary Information

General Information

The James Madison University Health Center is seeking a full-time, 9-month (August 10th- May 9th), Registered Dietitian Nutritionist to provide nutritional advice and insight to clients seeking such information. The dietitian will partner with students to support the UHC mission of providing health care and learning opportunities for better health now and in the future.

The Registered Dietitian will be a member of the HOPE team, a multidisciplinary team, which provides care to students with eating disorders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain active membership in the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and National Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Provide evidence-based nutrition advice to include Medical Nutrition therapy (MNT) for JMU students
  • Document visit information appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record and according to guidelines. Documentation must be completed by the end of each workday
  • Meet regularly, as a core member of the HOPE (Help Overcoming Problems with Eating & Exercise) team, to support and care for active JMU students recovering from various eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors
  • Collaborate with other campus resources that intersect with and support the UHC's dietitian's responsibilities to include but not limited to peer professionals in the University Health Center; the Dining Services Administrative Dietitian; UREC's Wellness Coordinator; therapists in JMU's Counseling Center; off-campus physicians, mental health therapists and dietitians; campus administrators, and parents
  • Obtain adequate and appropriate continuing education credits as required to maintain registration and to best serve the JMU student population
  • Qualifications

    Required:

  • Has received a baccalaureate or higher degree in nutritional sciences, community nutrition, public health nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or human nutrition from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Satisfactorily completed a program of supervised clinical experience approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Ability to interact positively with college students
  • Experience working with a wide range of adult nutritional concerns with a special emphasis placed on mental and physical illnesses affecting young college-aged adults, especially eating disorders. Some of the other common evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy needs may include, but are not limited to, various GI illnesses, Diabetes & Pre-Diabetes, Hypertension, PCOS, Food Allergies and Weight Management
  • Competency in working with diverse populations including people of various ages, ethnic identities, sexual orientations, gender identities, national origins, religious backgrounds, etc.

    The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

    The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on- campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
