Position Description Under direct supervision, supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments and materials. Provides assistance to faculty, residents and students in respective clinic in accordance with the state Dental Practice Act. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations

Major/Essential Functions

  • Prepare and maintain dental instruments, materials and equipment. Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes, and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as clinic policies an procedures
  • Collect and record patient health histories ( dental and medical) and record information for dentist's reference prior to examination. Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely, accurately, and consistent with all HIP AA and related regulations and requirements
  • Take and process x-rays. Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as clinic policies and procedures
  • Assist dentist chair-side by organizing and preparing instruments for dentist's use and assisting as needed during procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinic infection control procedures, cleaning and sterilization of instruments, tray setup and materials
  • Follow through with post-visit duties. Utilize the requisite tools, systems, technology and equipment in the collection of patient data, records management and collections
  • Responsible for the orderly appearance of the dental/hygiene peratories
  • In cooperation with the Patient Service Specialists, responsible for filling and maintaining an efficient and effective Dental Schedule
  • Ensures that adequate quantities of supplies are on hand to perform the necessary treatment procedures
  • Additional duties/projects as identified by manager. Ensure assigned tasks are completed within the parameters set by manager

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Dental Assistant through completion of a Dental Assistant course from an accredited College or Technical School and one (1) year experience in a dental office or clinic
  • Certified in Dental X-ray proficiency as prescribed by the Texas Department of Health
