We are seeking an exceptional individual to join the ScotGEM Programme team as Lecturer in Medical Education. This key appointment will help evaluate, research and thereby build the profile of this highly innovative course. ScotGEM is the first generalist focused graduate entry programme in the UK and is pioneering in several areas. The postholder will develop and support research programmes in four priority areas.

ScotGEM is a new 4-year Graduate Entry Medical programme delivered by Dundee and St Andrews Universities, four partner NHS Health Boards of Tayside, Fife, Highland, and Dumfries & Galloway, and the University of the Highlands and Islands. The first cohort of students matriculated in 2018-9 and will graduate in 2022. Both St Andrews and Dundee universities enjoy an international reputation for excellence that attracts top-class students and academics from across the world and both institutions hold a gold Teaching Excellence award.

Based within the Undergraduate Division of Dundee School of Medicine on the Ninewells Campus, and linked to the Centre for Medical Educations (CME), this full-time post will work with the ScotGEM team in Dundee and St Andrews as well as our other partners to develop high quality research and further enhance the programme.

Post holders will be supported by the ScotGEM and the medical education research teams in both Dundee and St Andrews.

Your priorities will include:

Create an environment to encourage and support ScotGEM related research

  • Build an academic base around four priority areas of innovation
  • Advise and support emergent projects
  • Support staff to conduct ScotGEM related research
  • Facilitate access to and gathering of new data via a repository
  • Develop new project proposals, PhD studentships etc.
  • Seek project funding, support ethics applications
  • Promote a scholarly strand within an annual conference
  • Disseminate via peer-reviewed publications, reports and presentations
  • Teaching Activities

  • Teaching based upon expertise and acting
  • Personal tutor or portfolio supervision for ScotGEM students
  • Limited postgraduate teaching role on CME courses and ScotGEM staff CPD
  • Scholarship support

  • Administer the ScotGEM Joint Research Board.

  • Support research governance and medical education scholarship more broadly.

  • Who we're looking for:

    The post holder will be an experienced researcher with a track record in medical education or a directly related area. They will be expected to work flexibly and independently, and to manage their workload arising from the duties of the post.
