Position Information

Job Title Reference Intern Work-Study

Position Summary

Assist with the digital design of the library reference guides starting with research and writing. This will include, but is not limited to, analysis of accessibility, colors, and creation of recommended guidelines when designing guides and other digital materials. Learn what is essential for the library. Using that information to produce recommendations for the library's website.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn the needs of the library in regard to producing recommendations.
  • Review and assess library reference guides.
  • Analyze library guides for accessibility and student use ability.
  • Updating library reference guides.
  • Report finding to library staff and update as needed.
  • Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

  • Some college courses already complete preferred.
  • Experience

  • Basic computer experience.
  • Experience in higher education setting preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to speak clearly, answer multi-line phone and take messages correctly.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situation.
  • Ability to follow instructions and convey correct information.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, while complying with FERPA and Library Policies.
  • Ability to maintain excellent Customer Service.
  • Ability to learn current library circulation procedures, including checking books in and out.
  • Ability to learn and implement Library of Congress organizational system for shelving books.
  • Ability to pick up a minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Ability to stand while shelf-reading.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Knowledge of administrative system and current software programs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office.
  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including filing.
  • Ability to exhibit flexibility and problem-solving.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with a diverse group of visitors.
  • Ability to complete job tasks and assignments thoroughly, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
