Offer DescriptionAt the Lisbon School of Architecture of Universidade de Lisboa (FA.ULisboa), there is an open call for the award of 1 (one) research initiation grant for undergraduate or integrated masters students or for bachelor degree holders enrolled in a non-academic degree course, financed exclusively by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I. P. (FCT, I.P.)/MCTES, within the scope of the multiannual funding of r&d units with Ref.ª UIDB/04008/2020, to develop activities in the research group Sustenta - Sustainable Design and Embryonic Project Laboratory MAPAS - Architectural Matrix of Self-Sufficient Principles of the Center for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design (CIAUD).
The grant is scheduled to start in June 2023. The contract, with a duration of 6 (six) months, on an exclusive basis, possibly renewable for an additional period of 3 (three) months, renewal subject to the existence of the multiannual funding from the CIAUD R&D Unit.
Generally, the objectives of this research will be to rethink the production systems of architecture in the light of the principles of sustainability in the areas of efficiency, adaptation and adequacy, as well as to advocate a situation in which the exploitation of endogenous resources leads to greater cultural autonomy and ecological diversity. Specifically, it is proposed to develop a matrix that includes these same principles in teaching and design practice, with a view to producing a self-sufficient, sustainable architecture of participatory genesis, based on the living building model. As a final result, a methodological bilingual guide will be edited for the teaching of the self-sufficient project, with the scientific compilation of the theoretical knowledge investigated and themes discussed in the events held, as well as the practical application of the matrix within the scope of the project discipline. Based on the results obtained, an application for an R&DT project will be formulated in order to develop a methodology for the production and maintenance of a more sustainable, self-sufficient and participatory architecture, as well as an indexed article published.
