Job Title RCLC AmeriCorps member, serving with the South Bend Community School Corporation Adult Education Program (7 month position) Job Description

This AmeriCorps position will be “housed” at the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC), as the AmeriCorps Program is overseen by the RCLC Manager, but the AmeriCorps member will work with the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) Adult Education Program.


The mission of SBCSC Adult Education (AD ED) is to strengthen community by inspiring lifelong learning and career advancement. AD ED classes are offered free of charge as part of Indiana's investment and commitment to all Hoosier adults, graduates and non-graduates alike. AD ED prepares all participants to meet their individual educational, employment and career goals.


Increase literacy levels for the nonliterate or low-level readers in our community Increase volunteer pool for Adult Education volunteers; however, the primary focus is for one-on-one literacy instruction Support the mission to create an ongoing, sustainable literacy program


Recruit, coordinate and train all program volunteers, with special focus on the literacy program for nonliterate adults Facilitate systematic recording of volunteer data and hours Assist teachers as needed by working with students one-on-one or in small groups Participate in staff meetings (AD ED) and AmeriCorps trainings (at RCLC) Assist the lead literacy teacher with curriculum development, assessments, and record keeping for individual students files Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested Support overall Adult Education program goals, including promotion and recruitment of students Collecting data and submitting data for Americorps semi-annual reports Day and evening hours

AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas, including education, by building capacity of community organizations.

This is a service positions, rather than a traditional jobs. This position runs from January 3, 2022-July 31,2022. This AmeriCorps position requires completion of 900 hours of service by July 31, 2022. The AmeriCorps member receives a Living Allowance in equal payments throughout the term of service. On completion of 900 hours of service, the member will receive an Education Award.

Compensation is as follows:

Monthly Living Allowance: $1248 Education Award: $3,172 (on completion of 900 hours of service) Health Insurance Child Care Assistance (if eligible)

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident alien Must have reliable transportation Must be over the age of 18


Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to teach/train others Interest in education, working with at-risk and learning-disabled adults Highly-developed organizational skills Consistent follow-through skills, adherence to stated deadlines Ability to remain self-motivated and productive in the absence of direct supervision Computer skills, including ability to use or learn Google Suite Applications Sensitivity, compassion, and listening skills required to work with a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree. -Bilingual a plus
