The University of North Alabama's department of Engineering and Industrial Professions ( https:// www. una.edu/eip/) invites applications for a full- time, faculty position to help teach, develop, and grow the Associate of Science program in Mechatronics. Applicants with a terminal degree will be considered for a tenure-track, assistant professor position (standard teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester) and those without the terminal degree will be considered for a non-tenure-track, lecturer position (standard teaching load of 15 credit hours per semester). This position will begin in Fall 2023.
The University of North Alabama is located in the vibrant Florence/Muscle Shoals region, which offers a moderate climate, numerous cultural opportunities, and a high quality of life. The department is housed in the 162,000 square foot Mitchell M. Burford Science and Technology Building, with state-of-the-art office, classroom, and laboratory facilities.
The North Alabama region is home to a large economy of industrial and manufacturing operations. Therefore, the successful candidate will have experience that is consistent with the ability to develop a Mechatronics curriculum in support of regional energy and manufacturing needs. This position will also continue to explore new curricular possibilities in engineering and technology as the needs of the department and region evolve. Essential Job Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to develop engineering and technology curricula related to (but not limited to) Mechatronics; Maintain and manage laboratories associated with the curricula; Teach program-related coursework; Recruit, advise, and mentor students; Engage in service to the University, college, department, and profession; Support any future accreditation processes; and perform all other duties as assigned. Individuals appointed at the tenure-track, assistant professor level are also expected to engage in scholarship and research as is appropriate to the application and receipt of tenure and promotion at the University of North Alabama.
Additional Duties Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities include the ability to communicate and work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and the general public in written form, verbally, and inter-personally; Exhibition of excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; a desire to teach and/or learn to teach a varied and evolving curriculum; and the ability to plan and perform hands-on development of laboratory equipment and exercises.
Minimum Qualifications
An appointment at the tenure-track, assistant professor level requires a terminal degree in Engineering or a Mechatronics-related field; Industry experience in Mechatronics-related systems is required; and five or more years of industry experience in Mechatronics-related systems is preferred.
An appointment to a non-tenure-track, lecturer position requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering or a Mechatronics-related field with demonstrated coursework related to Mechatronics or an associate's degree with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline is required; Industry experience in Mechatronics-related systems is required; Master's degree in Engineering or Mechatronics-related field with coursework (graduate and/or undergraduate) related to Mechatronics is preferred; Five plus years of industry experience in Mechatronics-related systems is preferred.
