  • The purpose of this Public Tender is the selection of the candidates for young researchers to be trained at the University of Primorska Andrej Marušič Institute (UP IAM), Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT) and Faculty of management (UP FM), for obtaining a doctorate of science.

    Mentors and research fields

    Candidates may apply for available position of a young researcher with selected mentors in the selected fields of science and research according to the decision on the selection of mentors for the year 2021 on the basis of the Public call for the selection of mentors positions within research programmes in the year 2021 N° of notification 6318-18/2020-2 dated 18 January 2021 and confirmed by Slovenian Research Agency N° of notification 6316-18/2020-132, dated 31 May 2021.

    Only one candidate per mentor can be selected. In case more candidates compete, they will be ranked according to an overall grade achieved in all the selection criteria. The candidate selected will be the highest rated candidate.

    If the selected candidate resigns or fails to submit the required documents by the deadline specified in the Public Tender, the next candidate shall be admitted according to the overall grade achieved.

    Young researchers open calls (upr.si)

    The conditions for applying are determined in the Article 113 of the Rules on procedure for (co)financing, Assessing and Monitoring the Implementation of Research Activities (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 52/2016, 79/17, 65/19, 78/20 and 145/20).

    Eligibility criteria

    The candidate evaluation criteria:

    - the average grade of all examinations and coursework (excluding the grade of the graduation thesis) in the undergraduate university study programme adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004 or in the 1st and 2nd level of the Bologna study programme (including the grade of the graduation thesis in both study levels), at least 80% of all examinations and coursework must be passed;

    - a completed Master of Science course adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004;

    - enrolment in a 3rd level (doctoral) study programme;

    - received awards and recognitions;

    - published scientific articles;

    - collaboration in research and development work;

    - evaluation of the interview with the candidate.

    The evaluation criteria are visible in the Confirmation and Evaluation Sheet, that must be fulfilled by the mentor and is annexed only for information purposes.

    2. The deadline and the method for submission of applications: Candidates may submit their applications with enclosures in electronic form

    Candidates may send a scan of the signed application form with enclosures in .pdf format to the e-mail address: razpis.mr@upr.si up until 8 July 2021. They shall use the e-mail address at which they can be reached in the time of notification of results.

    Late applications will not be considered. In case the candidate submits applications to several mentors, the one that was first registered in the system of received e-mail will be taken into account, the remaining ones will be rejected unopened.

    Additional comments

    Candidates who have already been approved for co-financing of postgraduate studies from public funds cannot be funded under the Young Researchers Program, regardless of whether they have completed their doctoral studies or not.

    Skills/Qualifications

    The candidate for young researcher must meet the following conditions:

    - has completed the 2nd level of the Bologna study programme, adopted in the Republic of Slovenia after 11 June 2004, in appropriate field and an average grade for all examinations and coursework in both 1st and 2nd level of the Bologna study programme of at least 8,00 (including the grade of the graduation thesis in both study levels), or

    - holds at least a undergraduate university study degree in appropriate field, obtained in a study programme adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004 and an average grade for all examinations and coursework (excluding the grade of the graduation thesis) of at least 8,00, and meets the enrolment conditions for the doctoral study programme, or

    - holds Master of Sciences degree in appropriate field obtained in a master's study programme adopted in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004 and meets the enrolment conditions for the doctoral study programme, or - holds a comparable degree to that referred to the above-quoted first, second and third indent obtained at foreign universities and

    If at the time of concluding a contract the young researcher candidate is enrolling in the second or third year of a third-cycle study programme, the average grade of graduate studies in a study programme approved in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004 or the average grade of all examinations and coursework of the first-cycle and second-cycle study programmes shall not be deemed relevant. If a candidate holds a master's degree obtained in a master's degree study programme approved in the Republic of Slovenia before 11 June 2004, the average grade of his or her graduate studies shall not be deemed relevant.

    Candidates, who on signing the agreement of training, will be enrolled in an additional year of the third-level doctoral study or have already used that status, candidates who have already received funds by the Slovenian Research Agency (further on ARRS) from the Young Researchers Programme and candidates that have already obtained a PhD may not participate in the Public Tender.

    Specific Requirements

    The candidate for young researcher must meet the following conditions:

  • age of up to 28 years (the year of birth is taken into consideration). The age limit is raised over 28 years, if a candidate for a young researcher has already completed one or two years of post-graduate doctoral studies without financial support. For each finished year a year can be added to the age limit.
  • If a young researcher candidate uses leave arising from parental protection insurance exceeding six months, taking into account one year for one child, the age limit shall be raised to 28 years. The same applies to documented sick leave exceeding six months.
