    1. Work Plan:

Despite their success, Neural Networks are still regarded as black boxes, since their internal representation does not provide any human-understandable explanation for their classification process. A recently proposed method has shown that it is possible to establish mappings between the internal activations of a neural network and human-understandable symbolic concepts, which nevertheless need to be dynamically established as new data is processed. The goal is to leverage on the internal activations of a neural network while processing data streams to induce a logical theory that approximately describes the neural network's classification process.

    2. Fellowship duration:

The grant has a duration of 4 months, starting in principle in December 2021. The contract may be renewed within the duration of the project.

    3. Workplace:

The work will be developed at the installations of the Department of Computer Science, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, under scientific supervision of Prof. Doutor João Alexandre Carvalho Pinheiro Leite, the contracting entity being NOVA.id.FCT – Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT.
