Time Limit of Position What are the Specifics

Provide individual therapy, group therapy, assessment and referral services, crisis intervention and psychological consultation, evaluation and support services to currently enrolled students along with other College community members. Maintain current license and practice according to the American Psychological Association guidelines. Maintain current knowledge on topics relevant to work as a psychologist in a higher education setting.

Responsibilities

Provide outreach programming and workshops on a variety of developmental, preventative, and/or psychological topics. This programming may incur some evening and weekend participation on campus.

Provide consultative services to university administrators, faculty, staff, campus organizations and parents.

May initiate and authorize involuntary examination (Baker Act) procedures in accordance with statute 394.463, Florida Mental Health Act.

Minimum Qualifications

A Doctorate in Psychology from an accredited college or university, which includes one year of supervised experience in professional psychology in an internship and one year of post-doctoral experience in either a hospital or college/university counseling center, or licensure as a psychologist by the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 490, F.S. The postdoctoral experience may be waived and accrued in this position for up to 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications

A Doctorate from an American Psychological Association accredited program. Three years cumulative experience working in college or university counseling setting, after an accredited internship is preferred. An active/clear license as a psychologist by the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 490, F.S., or licensed in another state and license eligible in the State of Florida within an appropriate amount of time according to board process. Also prefer demonstrated skills in psychotherapy and outreach in a counseling center setting or equivalent.

This is a general office setting in a Counseling and Health Center with extensive consultation to other offices and settings. This environment requires professionalism and confidentiality. This setting needs both an adaptive and flexible skill set, as the demands vary over time. Collaboration with other employees within the Center and other areas of the College are vital. Good judgment and sound interpersonal skills are needed to perform satisfactorily. The person also needs to feel comfortable in working with a diverse student body as well as students experiencing a variety of crises. Finally, the person will need to be able to deal with crisis situations in a competent and calm manner.

Physical Demands

This position needs both an adaptive and flexible character, as the demands of clients and the Center vary over time. Good judgment and sound clinical skills are needed to perform satisfactorily. The person also needs to feel comfortable in independent decision making.
