Job description

Because of maternity leave of the current project officer we are looking for a

Project Officer (0.8 – 1.0 fte) a.i.

Your core responsibility will be to provide research grant support to researchers within the department Industrial Design (ID), with a focus on Health, Vitality and Food research.

The Department of Industrial Design (ID) is one of the nine departments of TU/e and has an internationally leading position because of its core commitment to research through design (RtD) and its strikingly original conceptual work. ID's ambition is to be recognized as one of the top departments in the world that conduct exciting research in the intersection of Design, Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, and Social Sciences and Humanities. In particular, the department aims to inspire and educate a new generation of design engineers who can contribute with their novel designs, their fluency in AI/ML algorithms and data, and their academic critical questioning, to the imminent and complex societal challenges our world is facing nowadays. The Department ID comprises two research groups, Future Everyday and Systemic Change.

In this position, you will mainly provide support to the Health, Vitality and Food themes, but you will also reach out to other topics and researchers if needed. You will support the development of the research program by contributing to the acquisition and coordination of projects and by developing relevant networks.

You will include both strategic planning and actual support for project applications concerning NWO calls, EU Horizon Europe calls, and other relevant research funding opportunities as well as building and maintaining a relevant strategic network.

This position includes the following tasks:

Tracking and actively searching suitable opportunities for research funding, providing tailored information to scientists about calls that fit their expertise, and proactively initiating proposals together with scientists.

Actively supporting scientists in writing research proposals, at various levels (advising, reviewing, and where possible 'co-writing' sections on subjects such as finance, research relevance/impact and exploitation).

Where appropriate, assisting project management in case of successfully acquired projects, and/or taking up a parttime program management task.

Managing the portfolio of projects (keeping track of all subsidy applications and evaluating their outcome in order to inform future bids).

Building and maintaining networks with (international) funding institutions, potential research partners/consortia, scientists within the department and within the TU/e.

Participation in national and international meetings about research programmes; general (interest) representation of the department or our university on this subject at, among others, the NWO, the national science agenda, EU Horizon Europe etc.

Regular meetings (e.g. monthly) with the most relevant research groups and group leaders concerned to discuss the state of affairs, develop new activities, etc.

You will cooperate with others in the TU/e-wide Research Support Network. Research activities also target TU/e cross-disciplinary collaboration within the Eindhoven AI Systems Institute (EAISI).

Job requirements

We are looking for a candidate with:

A MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline and affinity with health and vitality.

Several years of relevant professional experience, for example in industry, a research consultancy, a funding agency, a research institute or a university

Experience in supporting the development of research grants, with clear examples (track record) of your involvement for ‘getting projects in'

Knowledge of project funders and the formal/administrative elements of calls and programmes, especially the national ones (NWO and ZonMW)

Excellent networking skills and communication skills (written and oral) in English.

Dutch conversational skills are a plus

Furthermore you are a team player in cooperation with researchers, support staff as well as other departments, universities and companies. And also a goal-oriented, proactive, organized, hands-on, reliable and recognized sparring partner.

Conditions of employment

In this position we offer:

A gross monthly salary between € 4.332 and € 5.929 (on a full-time basis, according scale 11 CAO NU)

Additionally, a holiday allowance of 8%, plus a guaranteed end of year bonus, 13th month
