  • About This Opportunity

    The Project Manager will be responsible for working with key stakeholders to manage the implementation and embedding of UQ's 2024-2027 Technology Master Plan (TMP). The TMP is an enterprise-wide technology plan which ensures UQ's investment in future technology is considered and coordinated holistically, and aligns with, and enables the UQ Strategic Plan.

    The successful candidate will use well developed analytical and project management expertise to ensure that new processes are documented, defined, and adopted to result in expected benefits being realised from the new strategic direction. The outcomes of these changes will also support the IT Portfolio Management Office to ensure that project approval processes are streamlined and align with the new Technology Master Plan.

    Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Project Management - Technology Master Plan Implementation

  • Manage all aspects of the project delivery, including:

  • Clearly defining the project scope and deliverables.

  • Coordinating project delivery to meet quality, time and cost objectives.

  • Manage project reporting to the satisfaction of the governance bodies.

  • Manage stakeholder expectations and use a collaborative approach to stakeholder consultation to define and implement new business processes.

  • Support the Associate Director, IT Planning & Architecture to implement the TMP and ensure the integration of processes in the overarching IT investment planning processes.

  • Develop project documentation and reporting including but not limited to project management plans, WBS and schedules, benefits, quality, and risk documentation.

  • In collaboration with stakeholders, identify business processes that interact with the UQ Technology Master Plan and document these using appropriate business analysis methods, tools, and techniques.

  • Through a collaborative approach modify and implement redesigned business processes.

  • Track the project's delivery schedule.

  • Work collaboratively with the change manager to coordinate communications for the project and contribute to change management requirements and processes for the project.

  • Organise and lead project status and working meetings; prepare and distribute progress reports; manage risks and issues; correct deviations from plans; and perform delivery planning for the project.

  • IT Portfolio Management Office

  • Analyse current state and contribute to establishing repeatable and scalable processes that support the project lifecycle, aligning with the virtual portfolio requirements, and UQ Strategic Goals.

  • Support the IT Portfolio Management Office by contributing to the function's services, while continually identifying enhancements for maturity uplift and quality assurance.

  • Provide consultative support to project managers from concept to delivery, operational handover and post implementation analysis through advice, workshops, and preparation of project documentation.

  • Adopt and promote sound cyber security practices in compliance with UQ's Cyber Security Policy and according to cyber security procedures and standards developed by the University or Division.

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as directed by the Senior Manager, IT Portfolio Management Office

  • This is a full-time, fixed term position through to December 202.

    At HEW level 8 , the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $105,338.31 to $118,280.70, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $123,245.82 to $138,388.42 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases.

    About You

    The successful candidate will be a motivated and experienced Project Manager, ideally with a background in business process redesign or embedding strategy in large, complex organisation. Further criteria include:


  • Postgraduate qualifications in IT, project management or related field, or significant progress towards such qualifications, and extensive relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.

  • Significant experience in coordinating process redesign or change management projects preferably with experience implementing strategies.

  • Significant experience in defining, managing, and leading complex projects in a waterfall project management environment, including, but not limited to:

  • leading project status and working meetings.

  • coordinating stakeholder input.

  • providing appropriate project reporting.

  • managing risks and issues.

  • correcting deviations from plans.

  • performing delivery planning for assigned projects.

  • Significant experience in stakeholder management including holding teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work, and leveraging organisational resources to improve capacity for project work.

  • Experience managing stakeholder expectations for project deliverables, managing communications, while ensuring effective project governance.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to collaborate extensively with stakeholders and internal teams.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to present concepts credibly, thoughtfully and persuasively and an ability to consider and reconcile diverse ideas and views through negotiation.

  • Demonstrated ability and motivation to engage others and generate enthusiasm around new ideas and new ways of working.

  • Ability to take responsibility, work well under pressure and to manage conflicting demands.

  • Experience in the effective use of a wide range of computer applications in a network environment (particularly Microsoft Office, O365, MS Project, Adobe products, collaboration tools including Teams, Zoom and Confluence) or the demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.

  • Experience in successfully managing the delivery of business process change within a large IT organisation, demonstrating a solid understanding of people and process issues in implementing new business processes to support strategic intent.
