Full-Time Fixed Term position to 30 June 2026. Location: SA, NSW or ACT

This is a fantastic opportunity be part of the Defence Trailblazer for Concept to Sovereign Capability - a collaborative partnership between the University of Adelaide and UNSW.

The Project Manager – Research and Development Acceleration works with Theme Leads, Partnership Managers and industry partners to develop high-level and detailed theme and project plans and resourcing requirements. The incumbent will be required to support the development of agile and effective project approval and reporting processes and will be responsible for continuous development and maintenance to ensure alignment with governing boards and grant condition requirements. The Project Manager – Research and Development Acceleration will work closely and collaboratively with Partnership Managers, and Research Contract Managers to enable successful research project establishment and management.

To be successful you will need:

  • Proven advanced project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
  • Experience with managing the delivery of strategic projects and/or innovation design processes.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills with strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to relate to a wide range of stakeholders and staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
  • Experience working in the Defence environment.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
  • Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • The successful candidate may be required to hold or attain an Australian government security clearance.
