Summary of the role
The University is seeking an enthusiastic candidate to work on an exciting project withing Research Services reporting to the Assistant Director for Research Finance and matrix managed by the Director of Technical Strategy and Services. If successful the role will be full-time for a period of 6 months with some flexibility of FTE could be considered for the most appropriate candidate. A degree of flexibility in terms of remote working could also be considered with a minimum expectation of 40% on-site campus working.
The Research Services division provides professional support aligned to our faculties across the research lifecycle. Our teams support our research community to deliver world class research and impact. This vacancy comes at an exciting time for Research Services as we support our newly formed faculties to deliver the University's recently launched Strategy 2030 and to support the implementation of one of our key strategies within that- the facilities strategy.
You will be responsible for managing the implementation phase of the university's Facilities strategy with funding available to support and develop and set up the governance of the facilities strategy, lead on the marketing and communications plans, lead on stakeholder engagement, guide and advise facility management staff, support developing costing a pricing policies as well as exploring options for maintaining and retaining our equipment and staff that support our facilities. You will also be expected to lead on other Research Facility activities such as advocating them externally and sharing best practice.
Over the last few years, the University has seen significant strategic investment in research facilities associated infrastructure and highly skilled technical support. Our facilities now provide a highly critical platform for our research and education excellence, underpinning collaborative interdisciplinary activities and forming an integral part of our world class research and education environment. So far, our research facilities have grown organically. A more strategic approach is now required to ensure that, going forward, these facilities are sustainable, coordinated, and better integrated, whilst improving cost recovery and skills retention as well as enhancing engagement with wider stakeholders such as commercial partners. A programme or work that allows for greater impact, more effective marketing and horizon scanning has therefore been developed to support our facilities strategy.
As Project Manager of the facility strategy you will be required to see the strategy's workstreams through from initial conception to implementation and supporting them being embedded by facility staff and academics into everyday practice. The role holder will be required to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including academics, professional services teams and external partners. In addition, they will also be comfortable working in an environment of extensive change and will have a flexible, calm and adaptable approach.
