Position Function:
The National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center (NSPARC) at Mississippi State University invites applications for a Programmer Analyst (Database Development). The successful candidate provides programming, data analytic, and database management support to the software development and analytic staff. This includes assistance and support in modeling, designing, developing, coding, maintaining, and testing of modern, data-intensive, web- based software applications.
Salary Grade: 15

National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center (NSPARC) conducts research and creates customized solutions in areas of economic, workforce, business, and community development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Acquire knowledge of programming procedures and standards. • Design, code, and test application software, as well as modify existing software to reflect changes in functional requirements. • Code efficiently while adhering to established programming standards. • Modify programs to increase operating efficiency. • Prepare test data and validate software for accuracy. • Write SQL scripts against operational databases to produce ad-hoc reports for customers. • Write shell scripts to automate database operations tasks. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area. • Demonstrated ability to operate in both Windows and Linux environments
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area from an accredited institution and one year of relevant IT experience. • Knowledge of SQL and database management tools. • Demonstrated knowledge in at least 2 of the following: Python, Java, C++, and Linux bash scripting. • Demonstrated knowledge of Atlassian Jira and Confluence. • Knowledge of relational databases and designing efficient database structures. • Some knowledge of Git, REST Interfaces, HTML 5, and CSS3. • iOS and Android development experience is a plus. • Successful candidates will have a good attention to detail, a desire to build good products for users, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• Programmers work together using a modified Scrum methodology. • Programmers have opportunities to earn certifications in Java and other technologies. • Programmers have the opportunity work on the entire application stack from frontend to database persistence and search indexing. • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. • No or very limited exposure to physical risk. • No or very limited physical effort required.
