Job Purpose

As a member of the learning and teaching leadership team, you will play a leading role in driving a culture of continuous improvement and delivering an excellent and quality service across the learning and teaching operations of the Adam Smith Business School, one of the largest Schools in the University of Glasgow.

You will build excellent relationships across the School and lead a professional services team to deliver outstanding academic, programme, course, assessment and student support across a portfolio of high-profile degree programmes.

This role is accountable for the quality, professionalism and innovation of service delivery, integral to the future shape of the professional services provision in line with the College and University's strategic direction. This includes working collaboratively with the Transformation Team to engage positively with change and wider improvement initiatives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for leading a professional services team to deliver an excellent service to learning and teaching staff and students. Accountable for exceptional standards of programme, course, assessment and quality assurance administration.

2. Lead professional services teams to develop new procedures, using innovation and project management skills to support continuous improvement of processes.

3. Lead strategic and priority improvement projects related to learning and teaching operations. Work across professional services teams to build expertise and capability in this area.

4. Line manage a senior team of administrators, role modelling exceptional professional standards and behaviours and leading the performance and development of this team, including all relevant HR processes.

5. Contribute to the organisational resource and capacity planning, including recruitment, to ensure the delivery of the operational plans.

6. Develop and manage relationships with senior academic colleagues, working in partnership to ensure all priorities are met.

7. Provide advice and guidance to senior academics, Head(s) of Subjects/ Learning and Teaching and other relevant academic colleagues on matters related to taught degree programmes.

8. Ensure compliance with all policies and regulations relating to student, programme and assessment administration. Effectively disseminate and monitor the successful implementation of new policies and regulations.

9. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of student record-keeping systems, ensuring the application of university policies relating to the control of personal and confidential data.

10. Play a visible and proactive role as a member of the learning and teaching leadership team, deputising for the Learning and Teaching Operations Manager on occasion. Lead on colleague experience initiatives and strategies to enhance training and development opportunities.

11. Undertake other duties as are assigned by the Head of School Professional Services and Learning and Teaching Operations Manager.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential A1 Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).

A2 A good understanding of the challenges facing the School and the University. A3 Extensive knowledge of developing and implementing administrative systems.

A4 High degree of computer literacy, including familiarity with databases and spreadsheets. A5 Knowledge of process improvement and change management.

Desirable

B1 Comprehensive knowledge of University procedures and policies including learning and teaching, and quality enhancement and assurance. B2 Detailed knowledge of academic quality assurance processes.

C1 Project and process improvement delivery, showing excellent planning and organisational skills with a commitment to continuous improvement.

C2 Developed and demonstrable management and leadership skills with the ability to empower and motivate others to deliver a high performance.

C9 Excellent IT and data analysis skills and a high level of numeracy.

Experience

Essential E1 Significant experience in an administrative management role in a large organisation.

E2 Significant experience of demonstrating high levels of autonomy working in a stakeholder focused role within a complex matrix organisational structure.

E3 Data management and experience of providing analysis and advice to senior managers. E4 Experience of developing and implementing change and improvement initiatives related to administrative policies and processes.

E5 Interpreting regulations, providing high-quality advice and guidance to others on governance, compliance and policies.

Desirable

F1 Working in the Higher Education sector, preferably in a student-facing and/or teaching support capacity.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
