The Center for PreCollege Programs administers pre-college and pipeline programs designed to educate, inspire and prepare students to succeed in secondary and post-secondary education while promoting a college-going culture. The commitment is to support students by providing opportunities to achieve and grow. The Center for PreCollege Programs (CPP) includes federal TRIO programs; Talent Search and Upward Bound, the Abbott Leadership Institute, University-Assisted Partnerships with local high schools, and the Newark Rutgers Future Scholars Program. The Center for PreCollege Programs facilitates strategic relationships with school districts, community partners, government stakeholders, and collaborative partnerships.

Posting Summary

Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Program Assistant (Part-Time). Reporting to the Director/Associate Dean, this position will be an integral part of the Rutgers-Newark Center for PreCollege Programs.

The position is responsible for and not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate programs activities to ensure quality and mutual support among similar programs
  • Develop collaborative efforts with internal constituents, external agencies, corporations, and other precollege & pipeline programs
  • Ensure documentation of all of CPP's activities, outcomes, and results
  • Program Planning & Implementation
  • Leads program planning in consultation with Director/Associate Dean
  • Monitor assigned CPP program activities to ensure program outcome attainment
  • Coordinate programming, student recruitment, workshops, and program activities
  • Supervise and supports seasonal, temps, and students; ensuring that appropriate services are delivered to program participants.
  • Responsible for verification and approval of employees time sheets.
  • Meet regularly with staff for feedback and program updates.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
  • The position is grant-funded by the Opportunity Meets Opportunity Change grant from the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE).

    Position Status Part Time Hours Per Week 19.50 Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement

    This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
  • Also requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a program coordination or administrative function, good communication skills, and computer literacy.
  • Certifications/Licenses Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Social Sciences, nonprofit or public administration or policy preferred and/or five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative function, youth/student support.
  • Supervisory experience in program management, and curriculum development with demonstrated experience in creative alternative programming.
  • Experience working within the communities of Newark is highly preferred.
  • Fluency in other languages other than English is helpful but not required.
  • Preferred equivalent work experience in education, youth development, sociology, social work, and public administration.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of database design and management proficiency; marketing experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with the relatively short turn-around time on program objectives and academic sessions
  • Equipment Utilized

    Position operates office laptops and desktop computers. Microsoft Office Suite, more specifically Excel is needed to track data and prepare reports. Able to learn WordPress, Canvas, and other RU-required systems.

    Immunization Requirements
