Professor Visiting Assistant Job Summary

Purdue University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications from qualified individuals for a full- time (100%, 12 month) Visiting Assistant Professor in Large Animal Medicine (LAM). The successful candidate will join an established LAM team consisting of three board certified internists, three residents, and 2 technicians. The successful candidate will support a consistently growing caseload (60% equine and 40% farm animal) that includes referrals as well as primary cases from Indiana and surrounding states.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree and completion of an ACVIM-approved residency training program in LAIM with board certification or board eligibility.

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is nearing completion of a major expansion project. Encompassing 162,500 square feet, the new David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex will include three components located just east of the existing Veterinary Hospital:

  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital (adding 65,000 square feet to the existing small animal hospital facilities in Lynn Hall),
  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Equine Hospital, and
  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Farm Animal Hospital
  • Scheduled to open in the spring of 2022, the new complex will provide improved teaching facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, provide top quality, compassionate animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research.

    Job Responsibilities

    The applicant will be expected to provide an approximately 70% clinical commitment to the Veterinary Hospital. Teaching responsibilities include clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of DVM students, veterinary nursing students, residents, and graduate students. Primary emergency call is shared with other LAM faculty and residents. Clinical research activity in collaboration with Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty (www. vet.purdue.edu/vcs ) and Purdue Veterinary Medical (PVM) faculty is encouraged. Participation in engagement activities, including committee work and delivery of continuing education programs, is expected. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position .
