McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery.
The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission to provide the best neurosurgical care to our patients, to lead the world in advancing the art and science of neurosurgery, and to produce the next generation of neurosurgical leaders and researchers.
We are particularly interested in applicants with independent funding who are passionate about pursuing translational research related to cancer biology, brain tumors, brain metastasis, and cancer drug target discovery and development.
Position Key Accountabilities:
The Professor, Neurosurgery will design and implement studies based on previous training and existing research. This will include a large array of molecular biology, cell biology, and immunologic approaches, combined with studies utilizing physiological animal models. Responsibilities include securing extramural funding and actively participating and leading collaborative research activities in the Department and Institution.
Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery and service, have potential to be outstanding in their field of expertise, and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. Preferred applicants will possess a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences (or related field, with postdoctoral training) and at least 6 years of faculty experience. The candidate must have a record of verifiable and published research, the potential to obtain extramural, peer-reviewed funding. Excellent teamwork and communication skills with strong potential for a leadership role within the department and Institution is also required.
