Professor or Associate Professor of Dentistry (Periodontics)

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Dentistry, a full-time permanent position as professor or associate professor of dentistry (periodontology) is available. We are looking for a colleague who, together with the faculty and staff of the department, will contribute to excellence in research and teaching. The Department of Clinical Dentistry has a research centre consisting of four research groups who are conducting research on tissue regeneration, infection and inflammation, population and clinically oriented research and biomaterials. The department is responsible for theoretical and clinical teaching within the curriculum for master and bachelor programs for dental education, the qualification program for dentists with exams from countries outside the EU/EEA, and post-graduation program in dentistry. We are looking for a person who is in an active phase of his or her career within clinical activity, research, and teaching, and who has academic expertise within a research field that is relevant for the department and periodontology. Applicants must document their own research related to periodontology and the priority research areas at the department.

About the work tasks/research:

The person who fills this position shall both initiate and lead research projects, teach, and supervise students and research fellows, as well as take on administrative tasks within a recommendatory time frame. It is expected that the person who fills this position will regularly submit applications to relevant national and international sources for research funding. The teaching responsibilities that are assigned to this position are primarily connected to periodontology, but the person who fills this position is obligated to teach in areas relating to the study programmes for which the faculty/department is responsible at any given time. The person who fills this position is expected to demonstrate a high level of ambition and good quality with regards to research and teaching, and to participate actively in the strategic planning and academic activities of the department and the faculty.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

Qualified applicants have a Norwegian doctoral degree in a relevant academic field, or equivalent qualifications, has or can hold certification as a Norwegian dentist when entering the position. There is also a requirement that the applicant should be approved as specialist in periodontology and have substantial clinical experience in periodontics and in dental implant treatment. Knowledge of Scandinavian dentistry is a prerequisite. We are looking for a person with the ability and experience to collaborate between various health actors and who is able to strengthen the professional environment at the department. Applicants must be able to demonstrate broad experience with teaching and imparting of knowledge and satisfy the requirements concerning educational competence. The ideal candidate publishes at a high international level, has been successful in applying for grants from national and international sources of financing for research and educational development, and has established, or is in the process of establishing, his or her own research team. Results attained in the course of the last 5-7 years will be given particular weight in evaluation of the application. The ideal candidate also has experience with teaching at the bachelor- and master level or in a programme of professional study, as well as experience with supervision of research fellows. Experience from different national and international research institutions, and the ability to establish international networks will count positively in the evaluation, as will experience with and interest in innovation. The applicant's personal suitability for the position is a significant factor in the evaluation.

Educational competence is a requirement for the position, see guidelines for establishment of a pedagogical portfolio at Center for Medical Education . The requirement is absolute for appointment as professor while an associate professor will be offered the necessary training if the requirement is not met before appointment.

The language of teaching is normally Norwegian. The person who fills this position must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years after appointment. Language courses will be offered.

  • Salary NOK 661 400 - 689 100 (code 1011, pay grade 70-72), specialist salary NOK 689 100 - 714 000 (code 1011, pay grade 72-74). Salary gross p.a. for a full-time position in the state salary scale. In the case of a highly qualified candidate, a higher salary may be considered
  • Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund
