We are seeking to appoint a new Professor of Social Work. The postholder will
be expected to engage in personal research that is of an internationally
excellent standard and to lead in developing and progressing high-quality
research activity within the Social Work and Community Studies subject group.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop a role in research leadership and
to make a significant contribution to the growing research profile with the
School of Health.
Leeds Beckett University (LBU) had an excellent outcome across the fifteen
Units of Assessment (UoA) that we submitted to in the recent Research
Excellence Framework 2021 (REF2021) exercise, with 53% of our research
assessed as world-leading or internationaly excellent (4/3). For UoA20:
Social Work and Social Policy, 56% of research activity was assessed as
4/3 and rising to 76% for research outputs. The Unit was in the top half
across the HEI sector for research power. The School of Health has ambitious
plans for research and the postholder will play a key role in developing and
progressing research in the area of Social Work and Social Policy, both in
terms of research excellence and in maximising research impact.
The postholder will be encouraged to pursue and develop collaborative research
projects with colleagues working within the established and successful public
health research centres within the School of Health (Centre for Health
Promotion Research, Centre for Dementia Research, Obesity Instutute) as well
as identifying opportunities for working with colleagues across the many
research centres based at LBU and with external partners.
The successful candidate will be an established, PhD qualified researcher,
engaged in and delivering internationally excellent quality work, with the
ability to provide research leadership to academic colleagues within the team.
They will have an established track record of publications and research grant
income and will be researching in any area of Social Work that can complement
research strengths at LBU. Teaching across our course portfolio is also an
important remit of the post and the appointee will carry a modest and
appropriate teaching responsibility.
For an informal discussion about this post please contact Head of Subject Dr.
Lorraine Agu (L.Agu@leedsbeckett.ac.uk) or Director of Research Professor
Gary Jones (email@example.com).
