Title Professor of Immunology

Appointment Status Tenure Track Department IUPUI Oral Biology – School of Dentistry Position Summary

The Biomedical Sciences division of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Comprehensive Care in the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) invites persons with a strong teaching background in immunology to apply for a full-time tenure/tenure-track position at either the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. Rank will be determined based upon qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will join our team with an anticipated starting date of July 1, 2023.

IUSD has a national and international reputation of excellence in education, patient care, research and discovery. Core values including collaboration, patient-centered care, integrity and diversity guide our curriculum and pedagogical strategies to deepen our students' understanding of the science foundation of dentistry, enriching their development toward becoming oral health care professionals, educators, and researchers.

We therefore are seeking a skilled educator who demonstrates excellence and innovation in teaching related to immunology in the university environment. The primary responsibility for the position is didactic teaching. In addition, the individual is expected to collaborate with research faculty with a focus on student research mentoring in the biomedical sciences portions of our pre- doctoral and graduate education programs. Our student research mentoring involves undergraduate, pre-doctoral, dental residents (M.S.D.) and Ph.D. students. Service at the department, school, and campus level is expected. The preferred candidate will have a strong scholarly publication record substantiating the candidate's expertise in immunology, and/or scholarship of teaching immunology in higher education.

Our Commitment

As the state's premier urban research institution, IUPUI and IUSD are committed to having a welcoming campus community that reflects and enacts the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that inform academic excellence. We seek candidates who will not only enhance our representational diversity but whose research, teaching, and community engagement efforts contribute to diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty. IUPUI and IUSD condemns racism in all its forms and has taken an anti-racist stance that moves beyond mere statements to interrogating its policies, procedures, and practices. We hope to identify individuals who will assist in our mission to dismantle racism so that everyone has opportunity to succeed at IUPUI and IUSD.

IUSD offers a dynamic learning environment for faculty, in which teaching, research, clinical care, and community service are core to our mission, through clinical programs in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville, Indiana. Our main facility includes a state-of-the-art 45,000–square-foot James J. Fritts DDS Clinical Care Center on the IUPUI campus and is both adjacent to local hospitals and part of an urban academic health center. We deliver a wide range of services and outreach to more than 20,000 patients per year. We enroll approximately 800 students annually in degree and/or certificate programs in dentistry, allied dental programs, PhD, and advanced dental specialty programs tailored to current and future needs of the professions and the communities we serve. The IU School of Dentistry is the only dental school in the state and educates 80% of the dentists practicing in Indiana.
