Major/Essential Functions

  • Participates in course administration and instruction for the dental school curriculum
  • Develops and delivers an integrated curriculum, which blends basic science and clinical concepts, in collaboration with faculty members in other disciplines
  • Employs multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large and small group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, team-based learning and distance education
  • Provides formative and summative assessment of dental student performance
  • Provides individual support, feedback, and advice to dental students
  • Works closely with the course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the goals and objectives of the dental school's curriculum
  • Engages in scholarship and academically-related public service
  • Engages in clinical practice relevant to the area of training (for candidates with D.M.D./D.D.S. degree)
  • Adheres to institutional policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching clinically-integrated human embryology and anatomy for dental students
  • Experience in the use of medical/dental imaging and clinical case-based scenarios in the teaching of human embryology and anatomy
  • Experience in development and delivery of an integrated dental curriculum
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods such as interactive large and small group formats, laboratory-based instruction, team-based learning, case-based learning, problem-based learning, and distance education
  • Experience with curriculum management software systems
  • Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to dental education
  • Experience in dental education scholarship
  • Experience in the development of grant proposals and the management of extramural funding
  • Emerging or established regional or national reputation for associate professor or higher rank

    Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Anatomy or Anthropology; or D.M.D./D.D.S. degree with training or degree in oral surgery or periodontology
  • A minimum of three years experience in teaching human embryology or gross anatomy at the level of higher education
  • Texas Dental Licensure or eligibility for an unrestricted Texas Dental License for candidates with M.D./D.D.S. degree
