All About You

Under general supervision, prepares microscopic tissue slides for

diagnostic/research purposes; performs tissue stains to assist in diagnosis; handles specimen accessioning; maintains laboratory and equipment; provides instruction.

Job Duties
  • Prepares microscopic slides on human/animal tissue for

    diagnostic/research purposes; includes fixation, dehydration, infiltration, embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include both paraffin processed tissue and frozen sectioning.

  • Maintains laboratory, equipment, and accurate records of quality
    assurance and control according to Department and CAP standards.
    
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains,
    alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications.
    
  • Performs histochemical and immunohistochemical stains on a variety of
    fresh and paraffin embedded tissues to assist in diagnosis.
    
  • Troubleshoots equipment and lab processes for improvement; documents
    and reports findings according to lab policy.
    
  • Processes specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized
    data entry.
    
  • Assists with teaching and implementation of new procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of programming and operation of general laboratory and
    automated IHC equipment

  • Ability to use microtome, microscope, cryostat, tissue processors, and
    stainers
    
  • Ability/willingness to adhere to the established departmental service
    standards

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and processes
  • Research skills
  • Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred HT/HTL (ASCP) Histotechnician certification preferred. Saint Louis University requires COVID-19 vaccinations for all students,
