The W.H. Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre (BRC) has a reputation for practical innovation and leadership in deep mine development and operation. With a diverse range of mining and 'geo' expertise, the Centre is focused on delivering industrial research solutions for active and future mines. It does this by developing new and improved methods for ore extraction and enhancing total deposit knowledge and predictive understanding of ore bodies.

About This Opportunity

The Principal Research Fellow – Geology is to undertake a research role in the development and application of geological models to aid in effective exploration and downstream mineral processing, from deposit to regional scale. The position will play an integral role in the ongoing research activities of the SMI-BRC Geology Program, which is aimed at bringing world-class geological insights to every stage in the path from exploration to mining to mineral processing. They will also be required to implement research that takes into account the development agenda as set by SMI-BRC including aspects of innovative mining based on enhanced deposit knowledge.

This position is located at our University Mine, Indooroopilly.

Our Ideal Candidate

The successful incumbent will possess a PhD in a relevant discipline combined with at least 10 years demonstrated expert knowledge in the area of structural geology, mineral deposits and innovative data integration. They will also display a significant contribution to research as evidenced by their successful external grant applications and established international reputation in their discipline. Their excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills will assist them to establish effective relationships to promote the insights of the BRC to the wider university, government and industry bodies. In addition, they will demonstrate their ability to secure funding for a wide range of projects and activities.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position at Academic Research Level D until 31 December 2023.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $146,824.75 - $161,756.46, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $171,784.96 - $189,255.06.
