Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Principal Management Assistant for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Provides advanced, diversified, and confidential administrative and management support in the Executive Office of the Department of Medicine at Rutgers University. Coordinates projects, correspondence, reports, and fiscal procedures for the department. Supports the supervision of administrative and secretarial services at the divisional level.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Create and maintain all aspects of the Department's independent website, which specifically spotlights the department's education/training programs and initiatives.
  • Exercises considerable discretion and independent judgement.
  • Responsible for all aspects of department's Monthly Report, Quarterly Newsletter and Annual Report (including coordinating divisional overviews, photography, layout, final production and distribution).
  • Supervises the activities of the secretarial and clerical staff. Recommends the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, performance evaluations, transfers and/or disciplining of employees, as well as other personnel actions according to University policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
  • Maintains time and attendance records, and coordinates schedules; schedules staff evaluations for Dept. Admin. to ensure evaluations are done in a timely manner. Interacts with the Department of Human Resources regarding personnel matters.

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration or a related field, plus three (3) years of progressively more responsible related professional and/or administrative experience in either the public or private sector.
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
