The Institute of Education, Primary Department has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Lecturer / Principal Lecturer (Teaching) Primary Strategic Partnership Lead to lead and manage a large partnership of schools across our outstanding programmes.

  • In this context, the Institute of Education is seeking to appoint an inspirational and excellent Primary Partnership Lead with a strong commitment to maintain and further develop our excellent reputation in teacher education and training. The Primary Education department offers the following courses:

  • PGCE (with specialisms in PE and SEND)
  • Undergraduate Primary Initial Teacher Education (PITE)
  • Top Up degree in Teaching in Primary Education (Level 6 and QTS only).
  • The Department also offers CPD to practitioners and works with Early Career Teachers through the local Teaching School ECT programme.

    The successful appointee will have significant and relevant primary teaching experience along with some successful experience of initial teacher education, teaching in Higher Education or teaching adults. They will demonstrate strong leadership skills in order to make a significant contribution to the senior management team in the Department for Primary Education, supporting the Head of Department as required and leading the Primary Partnership team in all matters as outlined in the main responsibilities.

    The successful applicant will lead and manage school placements for all courses across a large partnership of schools, supporting development of competency against the Teachers' Standards. They will have a significant role in training, moderation and quality assurance of placements, ensuring the overall quality of the partnership remains consistently high. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will also work with Recently Qualified Teachers and provide Early Career support. As a Principal Lecturer, the successful applicant will be a senior member of the Primary Department and support the Head of Department with personnel and programme management matters. To maintain our strong reputation for and commitment to an excellent student experience we are seeking an inspirational leader and manager for this role who can also model excellent practice in their teaching and inspire trainee teachers to achieve their potential in the classroom.
