Salary: UH9 £53,353 to £63,673 pa dependent upon skills and experience

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

As a Principal Lecturer the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of, and supervise and teach on, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of Aerospace Engineering. You will be expected to lead and develop taught modules and make a significant contribution to the leadership of the research, commercial and administrative activities in the School.

The role of Head of Subject Group Aerospace Engineering is responsible to the Head of Department for the efficient, high-quality operation and quality control of the Group's portfolio through the line management of the staff within the Group. The Head of Subject Group, in partnership with relevant Programme Leaders within the Subject Group and relevant Research Group Leaders, will ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning, assessment, research, enterprise and scholarship.

This role is combined with the substantive academic appointment of Principal Lecturer. An allowance of 0.4 FTE is made in the workload allocation for the discharge of line management duties. Appointments to the role of Head of Subject Group are made for a term of 4 years.

Skill and experience required

For the role of Principal Lecturer you will have experience of developing modules/programmes of study in Aerospace or related Engineering disciplines. Alternatively, you may have substantial experience in research or professional activities in Aerospace Engineering.

Alongside this, you will have experience of research in one or more of :-

• Advanced Avionics

• Aeroelasticity & Structural Failure

• Aerospace Vehicle Design

• Integrated Systems

• Advanced Aerodynamics

• Aircraft Performance & Propulsion

as well as supervision of research degrees, experience of line management and the necessary interpersonal skills to create good working relationships both internally and externally

As a Head of Subject Group you will have experience of managing curricula at university or national, and managing internal and external projects with milestones and deadlines. In addition you will need the ability to work successfully with a multi-disciplinary team of staff. The role also requires experience of leadership and excellent organisational and planning skills.

Qualifications required

First Degree and a PhD (or equivalent) in an appropriate area of Aerospace Engineering or an equivalent, relevant postgraduate professional qualification. Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution and Fellowship of the Advance HE are also required.

An appointment to this role may require an ATAS certificate
