An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Building Services Technician to lead the existing building services team within a major University Biomedical Research Building.
The building provides state of the art facilities and exists to meet the needs of staff and researchers to facilitate in-vivo research and to provide the appropriate environment to house and maintain various animal species.
The role holder will be responsible for the delivery of maintenance services and is accountable for the quality, safety and cost to University Biomedical Services department. In order to deliver these successfully the role holder will be proactive in investigating breakdowns and provide an efficient maintenance programme of electrical, mechanical, ventilation systems, air conditioning, heat recovery, water and Building Management Systems (BMS).
The role holder will also be required to respond to emergencies involving services, to manage, survey, direct and communicate with departmental contacts to ensure the response is appropriate to the needs of the building. The role holder will be expected to participate in the on-call rota to provide 24 hour, 7 days a week Building Services cover. The role holder will ensure breakdowns which result in moments of non-compliance with legislation are recorded and explained in full for audit purposes.
The successful applicant will have: -Experience including electrical, mechanical plant and BMS and preferably working within a biomedical research environment. -Experience in the management and supervision of staff. -Knowledge and skills in engineering work procedures, regulations and legislation to comply with health, safety, M&E, environmental and quality standards. -Investigative and analytical skills to resolve building issues. -Excellent communication and written skills and an ability to discuss technical requirements with varying stakeholders. -Detailed knowledge of the Health and Safety Regulations and use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWR) -Detailed understanding and knowledge of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH). -Proficient in the use of Microsoft operating systems including Trend and CAFM systems.
The role is available immediately and subject to a 9 month probationary period.
