This position is to support leave coverage from February through August. Full-time opportunities may be available dependent on the needs of The Children's Center.

The Preschool Educator will work with the team to support the children and plan curriculum. The Educator will ensure the safety and well-being of all the children in a classroom, support the mission and philosophy of the center, provide a nurturing, consistent, and developmentally appropriate environment that meets the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of young children. This role will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining positive parent relationships and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Abide by all federal and state licensing standards, and all policies and procedures set forth in the Bowdoin College and Children's Center handbooks.
  • Hourly rate for this position is $20/per hour (This role is eligible for overtime) and new employees in The Children's Center will receive a $500 Sign-Bonus (½ paid at first check and ½ paid after 90 days of eligibility requirements are met).

    Education/Skills Requirements

    Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, or a related field
  • Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in early childhood education, or in a related field
  • Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

    Required:

  • 3 years of experience working with children from birth to 8 years old with a Bachelor's Degree OR 2 years of experience working with children birth to 8 years old with a Master's Degree
  • A valid Driver's license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College's Motor Vehicle Use Policy
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Signed Child Abuse Policy statement
  • Complete the College's OSHA bloodborne pathogen training, and show proof of Hepatitis B vaccination (or submit a written declination statement).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft systems, and internet research
  • Ability and willingness to learn additional programs
  • Genuine commitment to the field of early childhood education
  • Preferred:

  • Experience in an accredited child care program (i.e. NAECY)
  • Experience working with emergent curriculum or Reggio Emilia inspired programs as well as an interest in working in play-based and nature-based environments
  • Standard Work Days and Hours

  • 40 hours/week between hours of 7:30 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.
  • Monday – Friday from February – August 2023.
