Title Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Macroeconomics (Prof Chodorow-Reich and Straub)

School Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department/Area Economics Position Description

Professors Gabriel Chodorow-Reich and Ludwig Straub of the Harvard Economics Department are seeking a predoctoral fellow for the 2023-2024 academic year. The fellow will be actively involved in all stages of macroeconomic research, including brainstorming, literature reviews, data search and curation, data analysis and programming / coding state-of-the-art macroeconomic models. The fellow will also be an active participant in the Harvard University research community. The fellowship includes opportunities to develop a research agenda in related topics, to attend seminars, and to audit a course (with permission of the instructors). The position is the ideal training ground for a recent graduate who is interested in pursuing a PhD in Economics.

Salary is $52,000, plus benefits. Expected start date is during the summer of 2023. The ideal length of the position is two years, of which the second year is conditional on performance and mutual agreement. The fellowship is generously supported by the Harvard Chae Initiative in Macroeconomics.

Basic Qualifications

The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in economics, computer science, or another quantitative discipline (such as, but not limited to, physics, engineering, or mathematics). A strong foundation in programming (especially Python, Matlab and Stata) is highly desirable. The candidate must be self- directed, thrive on independent problem solving, and must have an active interest in macroeconomic research.
