  • About This Opportunity

    We are seeking an experienced, proactive and energetic Practitioner in Residence capable of delivering exceptional administrative and business functions within the UQ Pro Bono Centre. The successful candidate will be able to anticipate, initiate and manage administrative activities and be adept at working both autonomously and as part of a small high-performing team. The role requires exceptional communication and organisational skills, an impeccable attention to detail and the ability to prioritise activities and tasks to meet deadlines.

    For practitioners there is an opportunity to work with a nationally recognised leader in the development, promotion, and provision of student pro bono services, and to work with a widely published researcher and Director of the Pro Bono Centre whose work examines the impact of the law on vulnerable people and the influence the law has on complex social problems.

    The role will provide an opportunity for practitioners with direct knowledge of the Community Legal sector to engage directly with students, impart best practice, and train and advise students who have a keen interest in pro bono work, whilst assisting the Director with the implementation of an ambitious strategic plan.

    About You
  • Must hold a law degree and be admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in Australia.
  • Must possess knowledge of community law, public interest research and pro bono work in Queensland and Australia.
  • Must hold a strong commitment to social justice and pro bono work.
  • Must have experience in managing staff to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Must have experience in supervising and mentoring students to develop their research, writing and practical legal skills such as client interviewing and advocacy.
  • Must possess a high-level personal work ethic and an ability to prioritise one's own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to establish collaborative relationships and to represent the Pro Bono Centre at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion, creativity and judgement.
  • Must be committed to upholding the University's values, including possessing the outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness and integrity.
  • What We Can Offer

    This is a fixed term position for one year at HEW Level 7 reporting to the Director, UQ Pro Bono Centre. This position can be 0.8FTE up to 1 FTE. (We encourage applicants to view this as a secondment opportunity.)

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $90,538.40 - $98,719.38 plus super of 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $105,929.93- $115,501.67 per annum. The total package may also include an annual market loading in addition to base salary, increasing your total remuneration dependant on skills and experience.
