We are looking for a well-trained, highly motivated and academically excellent Research Assistant to join our research team. You will be a member of the Inherited Heart Muscle Disease Group led by Professor Hugh Watkins FRS FMedSci. The group has a long-established and productive programme of work investigating the molecular and cellular basis of important inherited heart muscle diseases (PMID: 21524215, 22456184, 29097735) and reflects an exciting new stage in our understanding of the processes that cause cardiac remodelling, with a particular focus on the role of immune cells in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This pioneer work is fully funded within a leading-edge programme provided by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

As the Research Assistant you will undertake research projects aimed at understanding the role of immune cells in pathogenesis of HCM. As a Research Assistant, you will also contribute to the projects of other researchers in the lab and help with general lab management. The laboratory activities are likely to include mouse colony management, assistance to mouse surgery, genotyping, DNA/RNA extraction, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, cell sorting, confocal microscopy, tissue section preparation, western blotting and cell culture. The candidate will work with transgenic in vivo mouse models.

You will be required to hold a degree (first class or 2:1) in in immunology / cardiovascular or related biological sciences and have previous hands-on experience with mouse models. Proven experience in flow cytometry / cell sorting would be desirable.

This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract until 09 September 2023 and you will be based at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (WTCHG), Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Oxford, OX3 7BN.
