Postdoctoral Statistician/Bioinformatician

Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford Grade 7: £33,309 - £40,927 per annum

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Statistician/Bioinformatician to join the Oxford Autoimmune Neurology Group (OANG), within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences reporting to Professor Sarosh Irani. The OANG have described the clinical and immunological features of patients with autoantibody-mediated diseases. Often, these patients show highly distinctive clinical characteristics that closely associate with antigen-specific autoantibodies. OANG have collected date on a cohort of ~150 such patients and have a uniquely rich and detailed dataset to analyse factors which influence the patient outcomes. In collaboration with biostatisticians at UCB Pharma, the post holder will analyse these data and contrast with previous clinical datasets.

The postholder is expected to also input analysis and graphical presentation skills into many projects which are ongoing in the laboratory, hence offering opportunities for further publications and expansion of their skills sets. They will also be responsible for cleaning databases to create data which can be analysed by code by collaborators and to identify and troubleshoot technical or scientific problems, working collaboratively with database experts and scientific programmers.

It is essential that the successful candidate hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant scientific subject, the qualification can be held or submitted for examination/nearing completion by the time of starting the post. It is also vital that the postholder has demonstrable experience, ability and practical success in biostatistics and/or bioinformatics. They must also be able to demonstrate experience, ability and practical success in immune repertoire analyses and be proficient in the use of statistical programming languages.

It would be beneficial if the successful applicant has experience of analysing single-cell datasets, including RNA-seq and immunoglobulin sequences and have publications in the field of immunology.

The post is part-time (50% FTE) for a fixed-term until October 2022 in the first instance.
