Dr. Shetay Ashford-Hanserd, Associate Professor in the Department of Organization, Workforce, and Leadership Studies at Texas State University, seeks a postdoctoral scholar, with mixed-methods research experience in STEM or computer science (STEM+C) education, to work in the ACCEYSS Research Group. This position is supported by a research grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) program and entails conducting empirical research on the “Effects of Community Cultural Wealth on Persistence of Black and Hispanic Women in the P-20 Computing Workforce Pipeline in Texas” (Award No. 2046079). An ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented and have strong qualitative, quantitative, and programming skills, preferably including graduate coursework in statistics, mathematics, other quantitative methods, and qualitative methods. Candidates with previous mixed-methods research experience related to counter-stories or counter-narratives and statistical software packages such as STATA, SAS, SPSS, Python, R, Tableau will have priority in the hiring process. Job Duties:

Research

  • Serve as Project Director of an NSF-funded mixed-methods research project.
  • Co-lead all aspects of project management, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, manuscript preparation and dissemination of research findings.
  • Conduct STEM+C education and workforce mixed-methods research.
  • Facilitate research group meetings, conferences, and workshops with collaborating researchers from Hispanic Serving Institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Texas.
  • Visit and conduct research in collaboration with community partners and gain experience conducting community-engaged, participatory STEM+C research in communities of color.
  • Teaching

  • Serve as an instructor of record of undergraduate and graduate courses in interdisciplinary studies, STEM and/or computer science education.
  • Teach quantitative and qualitative research methodology.
  • Participate in curriculum development including online courses.
  • Teach courses online, on campus (San Marcos or Round Rock), and off campus.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers in a service-learning course.
  • Supervise interdisciplinary internships, practicums, and research projects.
  • Service

  • Serve on graduate exit committees.
  • Engage in activities at the department, college, and university level that build relationships with other university departments, local businesses, and community organizations as well as participating in professional organizations.
  • Engage in service activities with education, STEM and computer science professional and academic organizations.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree in engineering education, computer science education, STEM education, workforce development, interdisciplinary studies, or related field by appointment date.
  • Record of STEM+C education or workforce scholarship and publication commensurate with a (R1) research university.
  • Evidence of mixed-methods research experience related to counter-stories or counter-narratives and statistical software packages such as STATA, SAS, SPSS, Python, R, Tableau
  • Evidence of internal and/or external sponsored research commensurate with a (R1) research university.
  • Experience teaching diverse, non-traditional students in online and on- campus environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service.
  • Experience advising and mentoring diverse undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of experience on a NSF-funded research project.
  • Evidence of effective program and project management.
  • Experience teaching research methods.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive practices and culturally relevant instruction.
