Position description

The Aerosol-Climate research group at the University of California - Merced is looking for a self-motivated and highly-qualified postdoctoral researcher to work on a DOE-funded project aimed at understanding the interactions between mineral dust aerosols, clouds, and precipitation. The candidate should be driven and have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent scientific research. The candidate is expected to work on conducting climate model simulations (e.g., using single-column models, large-eddy simulations, and regional/global models) and analyzing model outputs and observational datasets to address the objectives of the project. Additional responsibilities may also include supervising undergraduate and graduate students' research work, contributing to the preparation of grant proposals, leading peer- reviewed publications, and presenting the research in various workshops and conferences.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

  • An earned Ph.D. in atmospheric science, environmental science, physics, engineering, or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment.
  • Strong statistical and quantitative skills
  • Experience and/or knowledge in computer programming skills with applications in climate science.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Additional qualifications

    Familiarity with atmospheric aerosols., clouds, and precipitation and their connection to climate impacts.

    Preferred qualifications

  • Ability to explain complex concepts to non-scientific audiences
  • Evidence of publishing peer-reviewed research in reputable journals.
