Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow with tasks comprised of research assessments related to a large, funded, multisite NIMH R01 treatment grant (PI: Jacqueline Pistorello, PhD) and psychological assessments at Counseling Services. This is a 1-year appointment. The intended start date is August 1, 2022.

The primary aim of the R01 is to evaluate the efficacy of four adaptive treatment sequences for treating suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior in 700 college students across four sites. Half of the fellow's time will be spent administering structured assessments to research participants and the other half of the fellow's time will be spent as a staff therapist at Counseling Services conducting psychological assessments (e.g., ADHD, learning disability evaluations) and assessment-related supervision and training of psychology interns and practicum students. There may be some flexibility in job duties depending on the fellow's interests. Of note, hours accrued during the fellowship are expected to fulfill hour requirements for licensure. Second-year postdoctoral fellows are also encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited institution in clinical or counseling psychology conferred prior to the start of the postdoctoral fellowship.

Experience completing psychological assessments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • working in a college counseling center

  • conducting suicide risk assessments

  • conducting diagnostic interviews

  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship.

    Experience completing psychological assessments within a university counseling center.

    Experience supervising assessment work.

    Significant supervised psychological assessment experience.

    Compensation Grade

    Postdoctoral Scholar: $53,000 a year for a full-time, 12-month position

    Department Information The University of Nevada, Reno Counseling Services is a growing university counseling center that provides individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, psychological assessment, outreach including educational workshops and presentations, general consultation and sport psychology consultation, and referrals to community health care providers. Counseling Services also has an excellent DBT team and runs DBT skills groups every semester for students. It's a unique counseling center in that it has received $7 million in federal funding to study university student mental health prevention and treatment. This particular R01 grant is probably the largest study to examine treatments for suicidal college students to date.
